US base map version reviewed. Good points: Base Map US version has most roads & Railroads & RR stations EVEN IN EUROPE! This is a product sweet spot and may be the best for your use. Data base is HUGE and searchable by name for Geographic features in the US.

I have owned the Magellan Explorist 610 since August of this year. I must say the pros are many and the cons few. Pros : The user interface is excellent, intuitive and easy to use. We geocache and wanted to upgrade so choose the Magellan explorist 610. It had everything we wanted in a GPS. The down side was it was so difficult to use the touch screen. Both of us tried to use the 'convient' touch screen but it needs a newborns finger or a stylus to work easily.

Short extract: A brand new model from one of the big outdoor navigation brands that has been a bit quiet over recent years here in the UK. It’s the middle unit of the series, which essentially means that it comes with a barometric compass, but not road navigation (available on the next model up).

Summary: By the end of our testing, the eXplorist 610 was able to handle the gauntlet we put it through. We used it to find several geocaches, and it even survived a brief bout with swamp water. The cost of $449.99 may seem a bit prohibitive at first, but it is in line with other GPSs on the market.

Short extract: Sometimes it’s good to get outside. I know this sounds near blasphemous coming from a devout nerd. If your skin tone is what some might call close to translucent, or if you’ve ever been mistaken for a corpse while taking a nap, some fresh outdoors and sunlight will do you some good.
