Xbox 360 Buying Guide

Kelkoo.com

Introduction

In 2005, about four years after the launch of the Xbox, Microsoft came out with the Xbox 360 – a definite upgrade over the original, and it boasted several new features and improvements. The Xbox 360 video games console has evolved quite a bit over the years, leaving gamers across the world enthralled. This buying guide will update you on everything you need to know about the Xbox 360 video games console, so that your entertainment experience can be taken to the next level without too much hassle.

The Many Faces of Xbox

There are two different versions of the Xbox 360 and we explain them in detail for your convenience:

The first-generation Xbox 360: Launched in 2005, these video games consoles came with storage capacities of 20 GB, 60 GB, 120 GB and 250 GB. However, they were prone to overheating and breakdowns. They came with three-year warranties, so Microsoft were compelled  to replace the system  f there were any problems or malfunctions within that period, which cost the company dearly and led to these first generation Xbox 360 video games consoles being discontinued after the launch of the Xbox 360 Slim. However, second-hand consoles are still available, especially online.

The Xbox 360 Pro, Xbox 360 Elite and Xbox 360 Arcade are the other models that have also been discontinued.

The Xbox 360 Slim: Launched in 2010, these are much slimmer and sleeker than the first generation Xbox 360 video games consoles. Equipped with built-in Wi-Fi (which was not there in the earlier version of Xbox 360,) the storage included on board the video games console varies from 4 GB right up to 250 GB. Naturally,  it is better to go for the 250 GB version if you are able as it allows you to store a huge number of video games and data. You can buy these consoles individually or bundled with Kinect sensors that enable you to play Kinect games. The Xbox 360 Slim video games consoles are not as prone to breakdowns as the original Xbox 360, and they come with one-year warranties.

Xbox Live

One of the best features of the Xbox 360 video games console is the fact that it allows access to Xbox Live, which is an optional service that will give you a whole lot of entertainment and action. There are two versions of Xbox Live – Xbox Live Free and the Xbox Live Gold.

With the Xbox Live Free version you can download demos and even entire video games, and you can also connect with your friends. However, you cannot play video games online and you cannot use other facilities such as the Netflix video service and ESPN.

With the Xbox Live Gold version you can do all that you can in the free version and a lot more. You can play video games online with other people, use Netflix and ESPN, and even gain early access to demos. However, Xbox Live Gold is a paid subscription service.

The place from where you can download demos, games, trailers, music videos, and a variety of other content is known as the Xbox Live Marketplace. Both free and premium content will be available for download here. The collection of video games that you can gain access to via Xbox Live is generally termed as the Xbox Live Arcade.

What Makes the Xbox Tick?

The Xbox 360 video games console is not just a gaming console but also a complete entertainment hub. You can stream video clips from your computer and watch it on your TV via the Xbox 360. You can also stream songs and listen to them while you’re playing video games. What’s more, you can also interact with other gamers and friends and download TV shows and movies using Xbox Live.

Xbox 360 video games consoles come with a built-in Kinect port, so you can spend time playing some spectacular Kinect video games. As mentioned earlier, the slim consoles are also available bundled with Kinect sensors. However, if you don’t want to buy the bundle you can buy the sensor separately and connect it to the console when you are ready.

The Xbox 360 video games console provides parental controls too, allowing you to set limits on the kind of video games your children can play, the number of hours they play for, the kind of people they play or interact with, and other such things. This can help you restrict video games that are too violent or inappropriate for the child’s age.

Some of the original Xbox video games can also be played on the Xbox 360.

Microsoft has included  a system of ‘Achievements’ which is basically points you can earn for completing certain challenges that are specific to the game that you are playing. Achievement points can only be accumulated by those users who have an Xbox Live profile, and the total number of points accumulated is known as the ‘Gamescore’. This system often motivates gamers to play more and more to improve their reputation on the video games console.

Games on Your Xbox 360

What makes the Xbox 360 an extremely popular video games console is the fact that it offers a huge number of game titles when compared to other consoles. Gears of War 3 is a third-person shooter game whose earlier editions have been highly successful. This Xbox 360 game is available in two editions, namely standard and limited, which differ in their price as well as capabilities. This is also available for multiplayer gaming through Xbox Live. Dead Island, Forza Motorsport 4, Take Two Grand Theft Auto IV, Battlefield 3, Resident Evil 4 HD, and Batman: Arkham City, Rage, Red Dead Redemption, Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 are some of the other popular Xbox 360 video games.

Many professional gamers feel that in terms of the quality of the graphics, many of the Xbox 360 video games outdo competition at any level. With the arrival of Kinect, Xbox 360 has soared ahead of any of its close competitors because it does not need controlling devices to play; your body movements will do the needful.

If you have decided that the Xbox 360 video games console is the platform for you, or if you want to purchase any of its games and accessories, take the opportunity to compare the prices that the online merchants here at Kelkoo.com have to offer, and make sure that you get the best deal there is.
